Kasauli is a small cantonment town in Solan district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The cantonment was established in 1842 by the British colonial rulers as a hill station. Located 77 km from Shimla, 65 km from Chandigarh and 50 km from Panchkula, it still retains an old world charm.

Products

Historically, the main whisky brand made by the Kasauli distillery was a well regarded single malt named "Solan No. 1" named after the nearby town of Solan. Solan No. 1 was the best selling Indian whisky for over a century until the 1980s. In recent years, it has seen a decline in its fortunes. Today it is struggling against many much bigger rivals, which are largely flavoured rums (distilled from sugar cane juice). It remains the only malt whisky made in the Himalayas.

Today, Mohan Meakin's principal liquor brand is Old Monk rum, whiskies include Diplomat Deluxe, Colonel's Special, Black Knight, Summer Hall and Solan No. 1. The company also produces London Dry and Big Ben gins, and Kaplanski vodka.

It is located near the site of a planned $US 350 million seaport, to be financed by Iran and Venezuela. This container terminal will be situated at the Caribbean end of the planned Ecocanal, which will link Monkey Point to the town of Corinto on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua.

 Dainkund stands at a height of approx 9000 feet and is accessible by a 2km walk. The trek is concrete stairs that are a bit steep and hence aged persons might find it a bit difficult. Halfway through the trek you will see a cottage sort of a point where a panaromic 360 degree view of the himalayas is visible. The sight is indeed extremely beautiful and made the trek worth all the effort. We did not trek ahead where a temple is located and returned from the cottage itself. Trek takes 10-15 mins.

Chamunda (Sanskrit: चामुण्डा, Cāmuṇḍā), also known as Chamundi, Chamundeshwari and Charchika, is a fearsome aspect of Devi, the Hindu Divine Mother and one of the seven Matrikas (mother goddesses). She is also one of the chief Yoginis, a group of sixty-four or eighty-one Tantric goddesses, who are attendants of the warrior goddess Durga. The name is a combination of Chanda and Munda, two monsters whom Chamunda killed. She is closely associated with Kali, another fierce aspect of Devi. She is sometimes identified with goddesses Parvati, Chandi or Durga as well. The goddess is often portrayed as haunting cremation grounds or fig trees. The goddess is worshipped by ritual animal sacrifices along with offerings of wine and in the ancient times, human sacrifices were offered too. Originally a tribal goddess, Chamunda was assimilated in Hinduism and later entered the Jain pantheon too. Though in Jainism, the rites of her worship include vegetarian offerings, and not the meat and liquor offerings.

Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary is a 30.69 km² animal sanctuary at Kalatop and Khajjiar in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. There is a nice cafeteria next to the falls and the area serve as an excellent picnic spot for tourists. St. John in the Wilderness is an Anglican church dedicated to John the Baptist built in 1852, located near Dharamshala, India, on the way to McLeodGanj, at Forsyth Gunj. Set amidst deodar forest, and built in neo-Gothic architecture, the church is known for its Belgian stained-glass windows donated by Lady Elgin (Mary Louisa Lambton), wife of Lord Elgin.

Though the church structure survived the 1905 Kangra earthquake, which killed close to 19,800 people, injured thousands in the Kangra area, and destroyed most buildings in Kangra, Mcleodganj and Dharamshala; its spire, Bell tower, was however destroyed. Later, a new bell, cast in 1915 by Mears and Stainbank, was brought from England and installed outside in the compound of the church
